The Church In America & Politics

Theocracy vs. Democracy

Is it biblical for the Church to be involve in politics? This is a question I believe many Christians’ have at one time or the other pondered over. Does the word of God say anything about this issue? Well come with me as I begin to unveil what God's word says about this issue.

The first point I would like to make is that the Church and nations or states are two different and separate entities. The Church is under a system of government called Theocracy(a form of government in which God is recognized as the supreme civil ruler or a system of government by priests claiming a divine commission). This is very evident through out the scriptures whether in the old or new testament . God rules through his servants(Priests, Prophets, Kings Judges, Apostles, Pastors, Teachers, Evangelists. Gen 3:1-15, Eph 4:10-13).

On the other hand most nations are under a system of government called Democracy(a system of government by the whole population through elected representatives) that is what we have in this nation(America). In a democracy the people choose but under theocracy God chooses. In a democracy what the majority decides is law but under theocracy what God says is law.

So it is clear that democracy has nothing in common with theocracy and for that reason the Church has no business getting involve in politics. Democracy is good but not godly. Note that I am talking about the Church as an institution, not the individual Christian. Stay tuned for more biblical insight on this topic.
